Noyce – Moment’s Good [EP]

When should you start listening to this EP? This moment’s good. Actually, this one folks…you should download immediately. Noyce, UK producer, released Moment’s Good on Oct. 10th and it’s his second release this year that I’ve fallen in love with. And, now he’s someone that’ll be on my radar forever. His previous oddly-titled release Shmank set the tone for what he’s all about: downtempo electronic music with all the subtle percussive wonders and guitar meanderings, shakers, and bells you could ask for. Moment’s Good is all that goodness refined. It’s Sunday Records’ first release. Sunday Records is spearheaded by Marinate frequent Ta-ku and its mission statement is this, “AN INDEPENDENT COLLECTIVE & LABEL FROM PERTH, AUSTRALIA. MERELY A PLATFORM TO UNEARTH TALENTED FAMILY AND FRIENDS.” It’s good to have talented friends, am I right? Check this EP out right now.

Noyce – Shmank [Album]

Been fairly busy lately—so busy that I’ve been sleeping on some fantastic stuff. One of those ‘fantastic’ releases happens to be Noyce‘s Shmank. What’s a shmank? According to Urban Dictionary (which is more accurate if you’re of the 21st century & an internet fiend) shmank means, “To wipe your hands under your crotch and sweaty testicles, then slap someone.” [via] Let’s contextualize: Noyce, UK producer, is offering up some sweaty, crotchety beats that’ll smack you in the face. Sounds about right. At nine tracks deep the album finds itself clicking and clapping its way through the roughly 23 minute runtime. Odd synths and expansive samples fill up the remaining airspace. It’s a gorgeous downtempo electronic beats album with enough sting to please hip-hop heads as well. You better shmank yourself if you don’t like Shmank.

Jewellers – Lakeswimmer [Album]

Take a break, slip off your socks and dip your feet in the lake. For me, nothing beats a little down time and a cool breeze. If you’re void of these luxuries Lakeswimmer is the remedy—it’s a dandelion infused gust, a pocket of scooting waterbugs, chirps and tranquility. Jewellers are electronic duo Gareth Leaman and Gareth Young. This is their second full-length release and it’s gorgeous. “Sing Trees” employs a glitched out guitar sample, some howling vocals and it makes a huge splash to open up the album. Think house implementation—slowly introduced tidbits (sliced guitar, reversed elements), building structure and kickass dance-ability. What makes the album great is its organic nature (snappy snares, clean guitar, etc). Take a break, slip off your socks and dip your feet in the lake.
